Virtual Gipsyness: I Even Met Happy Gypsies (1967)

If you’ve ever experienced “the Roma discussion” in Eastern Europe, then this film will prove that there’s not really much positive one can say. Skupljači perja (with subtitles) is a brutally honest look at life from both inside and outside a gipsy village.

The film won a lot of deserved notoriety for it’s time. One of the most moving aspects is realizing that the cycle of poverty, despair and violence can’t be broken by simply leaving the village…

Everyone who knows you’re a gipsy will make sure you find your way back to the cycle.
